Regal Pelargoniums, also called Martha Washington geraniums, are among the loveliest of plants. The flowers are fairly large, usually from two to five inches across, and are usually bi-colored. The leaves can be from three to six inches across and often have a serrated edge. They require some afternoon shade during the hot summer months and use more water than most members of the Pelargonium family. Because they dislike intense heat and humidity, Regals are well suited to our comparitively cool Maine summers. Give them a liquid fertilizer weekly and they will bloom their hearts out all summer.
Regals require a cool period during the winter to bloom the next year, so if you want to overwinter your plants, you will need to keep them at 50-55 F for six weeks in the winter. Just be sure they don't freeze!
Regals are out of stock for the 2007 gardening season.
