Early in the spring, these clematis will not have a lot of top growth. Please remember that April in Maine means snow still on the ground, cold nights and even some snow flurries on occasion! We ship clematis plants that are starting to grow: that means there may not be much to see yet. Don't worry, they'll come along fast!
Early in the spring, not all clematis will be ready at the same time. Those that wintered in an unheated greenhouse are ready now and the younger plants will be ready in late May.
You may, if you choose, order all your plants at once. We'll hold you plants until the right time to ship them to you. If you order plants with differing shipping times, we'll combine them to keep your shipping costs as low as possible. For example:
You order four plants. Three are "Ship Now" and one is "Ships in May". We'll ship two of the "Ship Now" plants right away and hold the third to package with the fourth plant that will be ready to ship in late May.
For an extra shipping charge, you can get all three right now and the fourth in a few weeks. Send us an email and we'll arrange it for you.

Payment: There is a PayPal shopping cart attached to our web site. You do not need a PayPal account to use this cart - it accepts all the major credit cards. Note: PayPal will open a new window in your browser to show your shopping cart. If you have this feature disabled in your browser, you will need to change that to shop.
Condition: You will receive a strong, healthy plant with a well developed root system. We do our best to protect the tender shoots; if however, they should be broken in shipping, don't worry. Just keep them well watered and they'll grow right back.
Packaging: Clematis will be shipped out of the pot. They have been grown in pots that are approximately 7 inches by 7 inches, so they have well grown root systems.

Note: Not all clematis will show this much
top growth when you get them.
Bare Roots Plants: All states west of the Mississippi River require us to ship all plants bare root. What does that mean? We remove all soil from the root system, wash it in clean water and repack the plants in damp peat moss. Yes, it sounds scary, but we've been doing this for years and have found the plants aren't bothered a bit.
Shipping Schedule: We ship on Tuesday and Wednesday, to make sure your plants can reach you before the weekend. We have found that it takes three days for plants to reach the far corners of the country (like California), so we will ship those orders only on Tuesdays.
Large Orders: Our shipping cart only allows us to include shipping charges for orders up to 10 plants. If you are ordering more than 10 plants, please contact us for shipping charges.
Help's on the Way!: We will include complete planting instructions with your order. These same instructions can be found here . If you have questions not covered in the instructions or elsewhere on our web site, feel free to e-mail us at hummingbird@megalink.net
